https://www.autoblog.com/2018/12/21/...ew-allegation/

Nissan must really have something if they filed a second set of charges moments before he was to be released on bail....

The second set of charges are a legal trick employed by the Japanese prosecutors, the filing of which (without proof) result in additional incarceration time for Ghosn. The prosecutors can continue parsing out 'additional' charges every 10 days in order to prolong his incarceration. That's how the Japanese legal system works.

Latest news, Ghosn denies all charges in court: http://www.thedetroitbureau.com/2019...rt-appearance/

As I understand it - they're layering the charges to avoid a flight risk of him; however -I don't agree w/ the process.

However, I feel that where there is smoke, there is fire. If this was a simple compensation issue (which understates it as compensation is complicated at the CEO level - but you get what I'm saying) - he'd have been fired. However, holding him in prison, prolonging the stay there, leads me to believe there is much more at play here.

So now Ghosn has resigned from renault as its chairman and CEO

While I'm NOT a fan of Nissan; I think the punishments bestowed upon Ghosn so far are a bit extreme...he's volunteered to wear an ankle bracelet (so not able to be a flight risk)...and isn't able to respond to any allegations...so, it feels like guilty until proven innocent (which maybe is just a North American thing).

This said - the evidence must be pretty damming for these moves....

Japan clearly has a different attitude to this stuff than we do....Here he would be back home and his lawyers would be hard at work.

Having met the guy when he worked at Michelin, this is hard to understand. But Greed is a dark angel.

Ghosn can't catch a break

https://www.bbc.com/news/business-47808730

Quote:
Former Nissan chief Carlos Ghosn has been re-arrested in Tokyo while out on bail pending trial over claims of financial misconduct.

Prosecutors said the 65-year-old had been detained over suspicions he caused Nissan $5m (£3.8m) in losses, according to reports.

In a statement, Mr Ghosn said his re-arrest was "outrageous and arbitrary".

Mr Ghosn's lawyer told a news conference they would strongly appeal against the latest arrest.

Junichiro Hironaka also said that Tokyo prosecutors had confiscated the passport and mobile phone of Carlos Ghosn's wife, Reuters reported.

Mr Ghosn, who denies any wrongdoing, was recently released on bail after 108 days in custody...
Remainder of article at the bbc link. curious with French, Lebanese and Brazilian citizenship, will he try to eventually bail once he gets his passport back to a place that won't extradite him?

He can't catch a break - or there is a LOT more to the article than is being let on? I'm thinking Nissan has some high level dirt they don't want aired publicly.

If they do, he might be put away for a long time.

I feel it might be connected with Renault's ambition to take over nissan and the government possibly not wanting this, fearing production moving out of the country and consolidating in europe or elsewhere.

Regardless, even if innocent, it may be a while before he is allowed leave japan.
