Ford Equator

Ford Motor Co will display a new concept SUV at the forthcoming Tokyo Motor Show.

Called the Equator, it will hint at the next-generation of Ford SUVs. It is powered by a 3.0-liter V6 engine and features intelligent 4WD system.

(Editor's note: there was another Ford Equator concept back in 2000 - but that was a Sport Utility Truck)

I wonder on which chassis this model is based. Escape, Explorer, maybe even the Ecosport? When I first saw the drawing, I thought maybe this was a follow up to the small SUV concept shown at NAIS (SynUS?), and was showing Ford's idea for an XB competitor. The magnified drawing seems to show body lines more in keeping with the Escape or Explorer.

it has a great front end design from the looks of it, but the side looks just like an escape. i'm almost positive those door handles are the same as the escape's in fact, which would mean that this is escape-based.

I agree that it's based on the Escape, look at how similar the A-Pillars are:

Same-old, same-old................... I thought Ford recognized it had a problem with safe/bland design and that they were going to be more adventurous. This looks like an Escape with a new, but seen-before, grille. And they want to present this in Tokyo, where it's the wackier the better?
