Default Covid-19 and Delays

So curious what are everyone's thoughts? How bad will delays of new models and future models be with the shutdown currently? 3 months? 6 months? A year?

Then of course there is the issue of a recession or even a depression if things keep getting worse, which would be another hit on car sales as well.

But on the brighter side of things, gas prices are dropping like crazy.

it's probably going to be 2025 before a new car comes out FCA. not sure if that's really COVID related though.

Not just new models but new production of current models. My totally uneducated guess is 6+ mos for new models.

I'm on a car leasing forum, and dealership employees say that the sales staff has been slashed.

Also part of a food forum, and I expect that the vast majority of restaurants will not survive. Cheesecake Factory (a HUGE restaurant chain in the US) has apparently e-mailed its landlords to say that it will not be able to make rent payments after April 1st.

It's going to be very, VERY ugly. I would not be surprised if we are plunged into a depression. 2008 will be a cakewalk compared to what we are about to experience (all IMHO).

I think some brands are going to fold - and I think access and profitability will be the name of the game. Whatever platforms or chassis that are out now, will likely be what’s gonna be used for a lot longer than you’d think.

I think GM, Ford and Nissan are looking at hard times, but I think Hyundai/Kia and many others will do well.

The new Grand Cherokee is still planned to be presented this year, isn't it?

New is a relative term to FCA.... Let's see how 'new' it is when they finally unveil.

I think this will have a 6 month impact across the board. People are still working (remotely) on the new products / launch campaigns / etc. However once the world STARTS to return to normal - brands aren't going to break down the doors to be the first to show off their new products for fear of being tone deaf.

I think we'll see a lot of 'welcome back to the lots' promotions. Then we'll see new stuff in earnest launch September.

Sales:
Big hit, especially in states where auto sales are banned....like mine.

Dammit, I had just started to test drive my next ride. Wanted to look at Ram 1500/F150/Tundra...no fan of the Silverado but it has to be there. I've always ignored Nissan....

This also means that unless the car companies maintain the incentives they have at the time the sales ban is lifted, people like me are going to be mad as all heck

NAIAS in June has been cancelled as the convention center is being converted to a temporary hospital: https://www.carscoops.com/2020/03/no...avirus-crisis/

While I expect companies to move their events online, I doubt they will be that fancy or extravagant. Maybe some will just be press releases.

One of the comments noted that, with NYIAS rescheduled for August, many debuts scheduled for Detroit might debut there instead...assuming things are back on track for August...
