Default VW to export Chinese Passat

I did a search and did not find a specific thread so move it merge it if there is one...

Autoweek is reporting that VW will send the next-generation Passat to NA from China. On one hand this would tend to make the Passat more price competitive with the Camry, Accord, and Sonata--as it needs to be--as well as making room for the "Passat 4 door coupe" thing. Assuming VW repositions the Passat downward in price--why else would they source it from China--it would then collide with the Jetta. Perhaps Phaeton knows more.

Hmmm...werent there plans of also building the Jetta in China as well? If yes then surely VW could import it from China as well

Well we can only hope for the Jetta to be built there for a more realistic NA price point as well. If VW can maintain their current quality level at a lower price point then most of their market issues would go away. The Chinese Passat will put pressure on the "Passat coupe" to come down in price too. This is all promising for VW, but challenging too.

Shame. Chinese manufactured.

By 10 year olds blindfold at midnight on their 17th hour of their shift?

People who have a compelling moral reason not to buy Chinese will not buy Chinese, but no country wants another country to be its morality police so cars from China are destined to be business as usual.

Its good to see VW do something about their prices. As long as they can keep the quality at the same level if not better this should be good for them.

My cousin sells VWs and he went to a meeting recently about some of their plans and they showed Tiguan pics and he said they seemed to really want to price it right.

It looks like a 17-22K vehicle though I suspect the transaction price will be 10 grand higher at least.
