I'm fine if a revolutionary design gets an evolutionary polish for it#s next generation, as long as it means that the 3rd generation will be more radical again. In BMW terms I'd say like the E30 was an evolution of the E21, with the radically different E36 evolving into the E46, being replaced with the rather different E90 model, that evolved into the current 3 series.
Problem is that it seems BMW and VAG have given up on that, just recycling the design (even without those say polishing out smaller edges of the aforementioned 3 series), and after the 27th variation of the exact same theme, it is boring beyond anything. Nothing wrong with a polished out Phantom so far (which IMO still looks a 100 times better than any Bentley), but hopefully we will see at a point a radically new Roller, and not the "new Audi A8 of Rolls Royce"....
