Kia and Hyundai destroyed the Optima and Sonata respectively for sales by going bland. The revision to the Sonata improved its looks, but it's still bland. The Optima used to have swagger in its class. This needs to get it back.

Yeh, design-wise, the current Optima was a backward step compared to its predecessor.

I fully agree. It needs to become a baby Stinger (having seen the Stinger in flesh now - and having sat in one too - I must say that is one very good looking car, with a very fine interior)

This right here....

Stinger was never meant to sell in big numbers -it was meant to show that Kia has the design AND engineering chops to compete with the best (which it does quite well)...

I'm pretty sure the mid-cycle refresh will be just that - but the next gen will be a baby stinger.

How will Kia create a mini-Stinger w/ a FWD platform? I think adding some pizzazz back to the interior and exterior is certainly a good idea, but it's not easy to create a shruken version of a sexy and semi-premium RWD car on a commodity-care FWD platform....

Given how much the Stinger borrows from the previous Optima, doing a FWD "Stinger" in a sense is a no brainer.

Kia will need to get over the prev gen optima design one day or succumb to it the way infiniti cant design anything better than the G37.
