I'd love to see Hyundai really target the GTI and the Focus ST. An Elantra "GLI" would be a good thing too.

Or make it a hybrid to give the Prius V some competition.

On a random note, I think I saw either a Mirai or a new Prius on the freeway at night yesterday. Whichever one it was, the tailight graphics were truly amateurish.

IONIQ will fill the role of an "Elantra Hybrid" considering the price and size.

GLI is supposedly one of the two targets for the Sport, which will have an IRS instead of the beam rear axle.

Good point. I forgot how short and low the Ioniq will be.

An Elantra wagon "GLI" would be fantastic and would be alone in the U.S. market (unless VW decides to make a Golf Sportwagen GLI, which I certainly hope it does).

Edit: argh. Got the Ioniq mixed up w/ the Niro. So I still think Hyundai could use an Elantra wagon hybrid. ;)

Spied facelift for 2019

I don't mind the rear fascia.

But that front fascia is SO BAD.

I quite like the face. It's mean and purposeful looking.

Agree to disagree; I think this is a fresh take on the Elantra. The current gen is WAYYY too conservative and boring looking for the segment. This is a step in the right direction; let's hope the interior has been overhauled as well.

The front end looks much better in the other spy shot where you can see how it fits in w/ the rest of the grille. It otherwise was looking a lot like a 2000 Focus Focus....

The new grille has something of a Toyota, a bit like the still current Euro Corollla (and a bit current Auris hatchback too); I agree that the current Elantra is very conservative, and this does freshen things up; It's just weird that it seems that Hynudai now had finally found a family face that they glued on all vehicles, and this is now suddenly very different again; But altogether yes, i guess it is an improvement.
