Getting closer to launch, with less camo; And, tbh, I'm getting more say Kia or Hyundai vibes than ones that I associate with the characterful RWD 1 series; Even with switching to FWD, this could look a bit more interesting and less average compact car....

At some angles it looks really bad - and not speaking as for 1-series, but compact hatchback in general.

Hopefully without camo end result will be slightly better, but still IMO it'll be the ugliest car out of the German premium trio.

I mean just look at this:

That shot you picked really make itz look like some late 2000s design, probably something between a Fiat Bravo, Renault Megane Mk. 3 and a previous generation Kia ceed. That huge front lights and the tall slopping bonnet really look like a design language from nearly 10 years ago...

Agreed. And hardly surprising since we've seen mules/spyshots of this thing for the last...what...3 years (at least)?

Sill wondering if the lights will connect to the grill with a small slim piece or be separated like the Z4 lights.

So far what I am seeing here is not thrilling and the A class beats it in the design easily.

I actaully don't mind it. Looks like a lowered X2 (not surprisingly), and I think it'll be relatively sleek in-person.

Actually the frist post is just a year old, but I know what you mean, especially the FWD 1 series being announced way back; It does seem a bit that a group of enthusiasts inside BMW is begging " let us have the old RWD model around for one more year, pleeeaaase...."

Nice effort with the rear door: making it shorter, keeping the evolution of the hoffmeister kink already seen on the 3er, and even keeping the old hoffmeister when seem from the inside.

Otherwise it is a very boring car.

BMW needs to bring the FWD 1 Series to the USA as a BMW 2002 and price it straight at the GTI.

Who says BMW needs that? For better or worse, BMW long forgot about that kind of designation. And pricing it against a much more "vulgar" car? It is not going to happen. Ever.
