There's good reason for this thinking. It's logical. The line of sight for a driver in a cabin is a capital "T," so cars with upper displays in the horizontal, like Mercedes, are perfectly within sight lines. Cars with lower displays in the vertical, like Volvo, Range Rover and Infiniti also make sense for this reason, as they fall into the T-zone.
But having a very narrow vertical setup in the upper dash makes no sense (It's a cross-shape), as our eyes don't organically move that way, so it's aesthetically unpleasing, and I'm going to guess it will be a bit annoying to use as well. Like watching a vertical cell phone video on a TV
