Doing a partnership with another manufacturer also doing premium RWD platforms is a no-brainer. A Hyundai-Kia/Ford partnership would be brilliant on so many levels not just premium RWD.
Cadillac could have easily found a partner. They merely chose not to.
I don't think Ford would necessarily need a partner for a proper RWD chassis, there would be enough volume for some Lincolns, a Mustang pulled of that platform (remember how the 2004 Stand used a simplified Lincoln LDS platform), and probably stuff like a Ranchero/Ute for Australia, a larger RWD Taurus (call it Falcon for certain markets) and say a RWD based Explorer and CUV coupe.
But, whilst enthusiasts would like to see that, apart from the Mustang Ford will likely think that the addition of a "better RWD platform" won't justify enough increase in sales (if any, given how little most customers care which wheels are driven) to spend any cash on that.
Also Ford doesn't seem to be too keen on cooperating with external brands, there are very few times it actually happened (they did share a few vehicles with VW in South America as well as the first Galaxy MPV in Europe, and all of them were no success), so I doubt that they would openly go to Hyundai and start to use a genesis chassis for a Lincoln...
