I guess it makes sense, kind of. The first generation of EVs were mostly bought by early adapters, geeky pioneers or Hollywood stars, all of which like to tell the world they drive something green. Thus quirky looks were a selling point.
Now with EVs becoming more mass market, I guess we will see much more of the currnet two design trends (super boring looking and older than the car it replaces or hopelessly overdone) on EVs to appeal to the masses. Kind of a shame, given how the small size of electric motors and the possibility to spread components and batteries across the vehicle could and should allow some interesting new designs and shapes or even vehicle concepts...
