It's hard because I don't know how/if we should advertise this place? Maybe we could use a few more members... but want to maintain the relative quality of discussion.

Yup THAT will surely keep us alive and distinguish us from the other platforms described above. Please. Go to those places if that’s what you want.

No, I don't think so, a different lack of quality. More like a bunch of kiddies who have seen 3 carwow drag races and two instruments of the F&F series and now are car experts, of course knowing that only a 1000hp Supra is a proper car, or a Skyline with a TUrbo the size of a kitchen appliance.

And the tits#s full or Trump vs. liberal politics and their resulting, high quality and educated discussions (on both sides, just to be clear), a thing I certainly don't miss here ona car forum....

I share most sentiments here. I've been on here since 2007 and like the forum and the people on here. Sure, the it could be a bit more lively, but what can you do if you have a couple of dozen active members, and around 90 that have logged in since the beginning of the year?

The one thing where participation could be increased and help drive the forum IMO is the lounge. We all have interests outside of cars, so why not open / or frequent in a couple of threads about hobbies?

I'm not fan of any of the Disqus comments format on Carscoops and the quality of the discussions is rather... bad. Also, there's always the risk of bigger online publications getting sick and tired of managing the comments sections and getting rid of that altogether (remember Autoblog a few years ago).

Reddit is ok though I'm not too much into the format, and Facebook I won't touch with a barge pole.

I floated the idea of having a collection or sponsoring the forum everytime closing down is mentioned and it seems to fall on deaf ears *shrugs*

I have seen those comments but I do not feel comfortable taking money for the forum from you guys., wouldn't feel right.

perhaps if I were to get you guys to help with funding anything, it would be more likely the license fro a forum software if we can't find any good free forum software.

Dude, if it's the choice between paying a bit of money to help support a well-loved forum that I've been frequenting on a daily basis for nearly 15 years, or letting it go under, I'm definitely like...
