Just what the world needs. Another MQB Cross over. Must be, incl. CHina, like the 50th or so....

I also have to point out that I absolutely don't understand the Cupra brand (apart form it being unnecessary), it is supposed to be the performance pinnacle of a brand that has "Auto Emocion" as their tagline, so one wold expect something exciting. A super hot, say RS3 related Leon would be logical. What is the first model? The dull and overpriced Cupra Ateca, getting lukewarm reviews despite the full VAG press efforts. So logically, the next model should certainly be a hot hatch - nope, again another CUV, using the exactly same underpinnings as the first.

SO is it a SUV brand then?

It wouldn't surprise me if this is more like an uplifted next-gen Leon than a unique product, it definitely looks more akin to a Mercedes GLA than a real SUV.

That might make sense, but then again, is Cupra a SUV brand that they get a lifted Leon? Why not the proper, fast, low Leon? The positioning of the brand puzzles me....

If the leaked image were sent to the USA as a VW, then VW dealers would have something they could be proud to sell. That is very attractive and nothing like the dull and dated looking VWs we get here.

I would like to add, that there already has been a concept some years ago as a precursor to my assumption that this will be Leon based:

https://www.netcarshow.com/seat/2015...sport_concept/

Regarding the dominance of SUVs for a sporty brand, the former SEAT president Jürgen Stackmann said in an interview with Motor-Talk that today's audience is seeing SUVs more as the emotional models than say Coupes or Cabriolets in the past, that's why they wanted to go there.

I think it was this one, but I don't want to binge through an hour long interview :)

Very interesting. I missed that concept, never seen it before. I like it very much, but both things I like about it are not liked by consumers: 3 door hatches, they prefer 5 doors, and lifted hatches, they prefer pseudo-SUVs.
