Reportedly delayed, won't debut at Frankfurt:

Given that the platform is a modified carryover, and at least some of the body structures likely are too, the problems can be either with their new, touch screen focused interiors that will eliminate most buttons including HVACs controls, or, again, engine certification for Eu6d temp and WLTP and so on...

They should delay it for an emergency restyling.

In theory, this would be possible; In the last weeks, since the first pictures emerged, the feedback was mostly negative; I remember that back in 2007, the Scirocco was delayed for a last minute nip and tuck (it abandoned the gaping hole grille of the study; And the first gen Ford Mondeo had a similar restyle last minute, though Diesel versions kept the different "old" grille, likely because if the inter cooler; And apparently there were last minute changes to the first gen. Focus and My 2000 Mondeo as well).

So it wouldn't be unheard of, but I don#t think it's the case here. Yes, it looks evolutionary (probably even more than any Golf restyling before), but given how dull some recent VAG designs have been, and they still sell, I doubt VW would get suddenly nervous about the Golf, their traditionally most evolutionary design....

I don't know; I don't mind mind the mildly refreshed styling. I'd actually it to be even boxier (w/ a less steeply raked windshield and roofline) to maximize space.

While you can certainly make a hatchback swoopier and sexier, I think practicality is paramount in such a design (and at the expected price point), so I'm fine w/ form following function. It's for that reason that, no matter how nice the Mazda 3 interior and exterior design are, I'd probably never buy one....

Looks a bit boring, with the front almost looking like it is depressed

This looks so boring that the thought of millions of them flooding European roads makes me depressed. I'd also say the current Polo is in flesh a much more boring car than the one it replaced, I fear this will be no better. And we are not exactly talking sexy cars before...

I can only hope it still includes a bad statement wardrobe, awful trendy music and the poor driver road demeanor of most prior generations.
