Default 202? Ford Bronco

First mules of the "proper" upcoming Bronco:

Obviously using a hacked up Ford Ranger pickup body (and, in places, a rather vole camo made out of brushes?), but it appears it will be a proper off roader.

The brushes are commonly seen on large trucks that operate in wet/snowy conditions. The brushes impede the flinging of slush onto the windows of other motorists.

Given that we are just now seeing the first crude prototype, that would tend to indicate that the Bronco is farther out than the initial reports have been of its on-sale date.

Note the severely restricted rear overhang. A big clue there about Bronco styling.

More likely it will be in two wheelbases like the Wrangler. That short and stubby would keep it from being a massive hit. People love their LWB Wranglers.

A wrangler competitor makes a ton of sense. Shrinking the Land Rover Defender market further.

The Defender isn't even remotely a player for the volume in the segment worldwide nor will it be when it presumably comes to the USA.

The old Defender was targeting a different, utilitarian crowd for most of it's life, thanks to it's simplicity and robustness; The new one, well, I'm not sure who will want a not very Defender but also not pretty looking off roader in a endless sea off SUVs and CUVs...

I don't think a Wrangler or Bronco customer would spend any thought about buying an expensive wannabe Defender, that#s for sure...

The Defender has never been a volume seller. It's more of a cottage-made curiosity. And you're right. The Wrangler/Bronco buyers would look at the stupid pricing of a Defender for the nothing you get and ditch it that is if the horrible reliability didn't send them running in the first place.

I keep saying that Toyota should make Land Cruiser a brand because that would be such a logical and profitable move.
