I dont think its a Scorpio replacement, although I do think its time for the new generation. It definitely looks sleeker and more proportionate than the Xylo. From what i have read in other forums it is slated to be a competitior for the Fortuner and Captiva at a price of 16 lacs(more or less (35K USD)... a segment Tata is planning on entering with a premium Safari...
The Mahindra is rumoured to be based on a completely new pplatform and have apparently spent 700-800 crores(over 1 billion USD) developing the new SUV as it is going to follow into the world market as well.

Apparently Peter Stevens is the designer for the new SUV and he is more than just a Design Consultant, he is going to be involved in extending quality maintenance right from the point of initial design. The fact can be understood more by reading this interview in the New York Times.

Default New Mahindra SUV not scorpio replacement

The new Mahindra SUV which I have posted above is not a replacement for the Scorpio. Infact it will postitioned higher than the Scorpio as a premium SUV. Yes Tata's are also readying a next generation Safari to be postitioned in the same segment.
