Adding a third row, which is kind of a no brainer. Visually I find the extra length and bulk surprisingly well integrated visually...

Seriously, makes me wonder how useful this extension may actually be?

If it had a manual transmission, I would buy the L model, and delete the rear seats for the extra gun space in the back.

Pretty useless. It was previously reported widely that they lengthened the tail so that the seats could sit over the rear wheels which means that tiny children could ride there but anyone else, nope. They didn't stretch the wheelbase which would have made the seats usable.

Lexus needed a three row crossover. They should ditch one of their two BOF SUVs in favor of a true Q7/QX60 competitor. This will have to do as a stopgap in the meantime and I'm sure it will sell well.

Ditching the horrible GX and LX for products that aren't outdated would be great.

At one point the RAV4 had equally useful third row seats, and given that the standard RX is a much bigger car, they really dropped the ball with the packaging. This was clearly bandaid engineering, which casts doubts on long term integrity of the vehicles. There's no way they planned this from the get-go with the original platform. Also, did anyone notice the rear seat floor mats? Why even bother at that point?

Integrity should be fine, they took this long and barely changed anything.

It may end up outstripping the standard length RX350. Amazing how well its done for so long without a third row and I have seen people put kids back there (original RX300) .

It's platform mates with the Highlander...which already accommodates a third row. So yeah they actually did plan for the platform to handle a third-row from the get-go. Have we seen specs? I'd imagine this now dimensionally is identical to the Highlander, so hardly makes the integrity of the vehicle doubtful...

i think the highlander has always had a larger wheelbase than the RX. They same may be the case here since the wheelbase hasnt changed.

Nevertheless, agreed, integrity should be fine. This is Toyota not bloody GM.
