And that German complacency is biting BMW in the ass as the 7 Series flounders. The S Class is about flash and presence and it sells. The 7 Series and the A8 are as dull as Camrys and they languish.

Tesla is showing that something different and intriguing is the way. While I am no fan of Tesla, the Model S has definitely diverted buyers in the $$$ price range to it.

How ironic it is that the Genesis G90 and Continental are more compelling stylistically than the A8.

It would not surprise me to see sales of the Lexus LS and the S Class prosper at the expense of the 7 Series and A8.

If this is the best that Marc Lichte can do, then Audi needs to fire him.

Design will probably be best in class, both in and out. But proportions still look cheap (FWD). Car will also be boring for the price tag.

Does anyone else think that this looks like a gigantic, upscale Passat?

I think the design is leaner and sleeker than the outgoing one (which isn't saying much). The oddly droopy proportions are gone. But, interior aside (which I assume will be a knockout), I think that, if I were buying a car to drive, I might rather have a CT6 (can't believe I just wrote that).

And a 20 year old Passat at that.

They should have ditched this one and instead have switched to the Panamera platform right away :/

very disappointing that we'll have to wait another 7 years for that A8, assuming they do make the switch.

I have to agree, that combined with some daring A7 design cues would have made a very different and interesting car, and surely avoided the "20 year old Passat" proportions. like it is, this is - apart form the MQB based small models - most FWD looking Audi in the line up.

It will probably be fine for China and German governmental use, plus some "limo services", but the rest will probably not care too much....

Not switching from MLB to MSB now was a mistake, because till next generation, that is 2025, they will have to skip MSB and switch directly to MEB if they want to stay relevant.

Could this be a stopgap vehicle (i.e. not really new) but a heavily updated model to hold over to the Panamaudi? With the Continental and the Flying Spur next in line for Panameraization, a stopgap Audi would buy time.
