This looks HUGE, I guess Passat sized. Will be presented later this year, with deliveries starting early next year according to my dealer.

I wonder where that leaves the Superb then?

Probably even bigger, or, like the Passat, with questions over the future; Given how only fleets buy nowadays non premium D-segment cars in Europe, I could understand why VAG decides that a larger Octavia would be more than enough, and the rest should just buy a CUV (what they likely anyway does)

That's true actually, it may go the way of the Mondeo...

Indeed, the Passat and Mondeo are fleet favorites, and yet both are very much in question after 20121/22. If the Passat really goes, I'm 99,9% sure that the Superb would go as well, given that the cost synergy would be lost; But I guess just like the Ford Taurus, these cars could live on in China...

It's interesting to note that the American Taurus and the Chinese Taurus are nothing alike. Our Taurus was marketed as being larger/above the Fusion (Mondeo), but in some important ways, the Fusion is more commodious. The Chinese Taurus is a SuperFusion like the Continental.

I think that ditching all sedans as Ford is doing in the USA is dumb. People are still buying sedans and Toyota understands this. Maybe Ford didn't need 4 (Fiesta, Focus, Fusion, and Taurus), but keeping the Fusion as a sedan makes some sense here. They could also export it to Europe as the Mondeo for the volume that would remain (i.e. use one factory for world production).

I haven't decided what to lease next when my Fusion cheapo lease is done in October. I could do a last-leg Fusion or the style challenged Escape. I considered a Ranger but a 2WD SuperCab with rudimentary options is $35-39K on the lot which is $10K too high.
