That's what the I.D. 'Neo' hatchback EV will be for. Keep the Golf on for the hybrid/ICE, have the I.D. take over from the E-Golf and eventually the Golf. There might not be a mk9 Golf as an ICE car.

The new Golf will look just like the one before it and it will continue to be a mediocre design.

IMO full switch to EVs will take longer than that.

They've already announced no more gas engines after 2026.

Well, not really...

https://www.motor1.com/news/297257/v...stion-engines/

2026 is just the start of the last generation of ICEs.

Still. If the Mark 8 is a 2020 (it might even be a 2021), it's unlikely given the length of the current generation (and some predecessors, historically) that we'd see a Mark 9 before 2027 and who knows what engine it will get...let's wait and see, but neither you nor I can definitively say one way or the other.

They've got form for this sort of leak. We saw the current Polo and Touareg almost completely undisguised in much more detailed spy shots taken in South Africa, almost six months before they officially unveiled the Polo, and over a year before they debuted the Touareg..

If you wish, the Golf a mediocre design, but no car is this class is better than mediocre. The real problem of the Golf is its price and its social status as a Porsche among the middle class people.

Fair enough, it's still hard to see barely anything from either video so I'm not particularly excited by these developments in any case, regardless of what this thing is.
