Indeed; Especially the 5 door looks like a Dodge Nitro was applied the detailing of a previous generation Discovery (LR3); The short version will probably end up looking less like a Defender than the Suzuki Jimny with that "Mini Defender" kit....

The side hinged door is a massive mistake. Such a design makes it backward for the USA. There is this thing called a hatch... This is really turning out to be an epic fail.

Sideways opening rear door is a thing on Defenders. You can't mount a spare tyre on a hatch. Unless you are very strong. Or make it electric with a huge motor.

It make be a "thing" but it's a wrong thing. Swing axles were a thing on the Beetle, but there is no reason that the New Beetles had to be similarly hobbled with design idiocy.

That's why you would do a split door or a hatch with a swing arm. The side opening door is always oriented wrong for LHD markets. The BEST solution is how a Wrangler does it.

Spy shot of interior, matching the earlier mockup. I think it looks like nice, and I like the mix of capacitive controls and real buttons.

Someone snapped a photo from the car's UI, it is an illustration but does give a basic idea of the design.
