Swiss government has put a ban on gatherings more than 1,000 people in light of coronavirus worries: https://www.motor1.com/news/401241/2...show-canceled/

Well if 1000 is the limit, lets close all the airports, sports facilities, banks etc as well....

I do get that this is a major health emergency, but I really do feel this is being completely blown out of proportion. Even in a major congregation of people, you're more likely to contract the flu and keel over from that rather than from Coronavirus.

Itís hard to say that for certain when the method of transmission is not totally known. Itís too early to talk whatís more likely.

I'm not talking about transmission though. The number of confirmed cases of Coronavirus here in the UK is 19 at this point in time, in a population of 60 million people. So yes, I'd wager that I could be in a crowd of people anywhere in this country, and I would be more likely to catch the common flu.

Ok...but this isn’t in the UK? There have been more than 300 cases in Italy and 13 deaths in Italy alone. Just now, the World Health Organization raised the coronavirus threat risk to its highest assessment level. I’d rather have countries be safe than sorry, even if they end up being wrong, when you have an international event like the auto show that will draw attendees from all over Europe and beyond. I’d rather they be wrong in this way than hold it, be wrong, and exponentially increase the spread.

Wonder if this will impact some premieres, with some companies pushing some back and others not.

A lot have announced they’ll be live-streaming reveals online instead: Mercedes, Audi, etc.

Here's the current list:

Yes, but the estimated mortality rate of COVID-19 is ~10x higher than w/ the flu, and you can get a vaccine for the flu.

I understand why the Swiss are doing this. Overreaction? Perhaps. But probably better to overreact than to later regret not moving aggressively enough.

Besides, auto shows are becoming a bit of a dinosaur, IMHO.
