Well, given the reception the Dodge Dart and the Chrysler 200 had, why should they waste resources on providing the US with compact cars? A more worrying question is Europe. The Fiat Punto used to sell in vast quantities over here, but since it was left to wither on the vine (it's now 12 years old), sales have collapsed to around 60k.

Agreed.... problem is they're not putting resources into the Dodge brand or the Chrysler brand. Sure, Chrysler has the Pascifica now, ok - so since 2008 2 'brand new' Chyslers have come to market; Dodge (since 2008) has had Dart. Yes - they've tweaked to death 300 / Challenger / Charger...but - where are the CUV's that should be replacing Dart / 200? Where is the brand new Journey? Where is the mid-sized / compact Ram pickups?

There was not much CUV happening in the Caliber and too much Cold-War, East-German, penalty-box thinking going on.
