Cadillac just can't catch a break. And it's their own fault.
The C pillar is trash. One of the worst fake-windows I've seen in awhile. (even worse than the Continental Coach's mess of a black plastic triangle)

The proportions of the rear are compromised. Something really awkward going on and the C pillar is making it worse.

Also really disappointing mix-n-match of Escala headlights and their current ones. Why can't is be a single slim shape with the steady top edge instead of flaring up like that?

I felt meh about the Escala and the direction Art & Science has gone. And this just confirms my fear of it falling apart in production guise. Caddy was bold and interesting when it was making the CTS coupe and ELR. This is just generic and GM-y, as is the XT6, as is the XT5 as is the XT4...

Sad thing about the Continental is that its a solid stab of automotive design. Its just too much money for a tarted up Taurus chassis when Mustang bones are just a grab away.

I see Cruze in the C-Pillar and Korean in the rest. I won't say it's a *BAD* looking car, but it doesn't look like it deserves the Cadillac badge to me.

Exactly, the CT6 and outgoing CTS (stupid names) were much cleaner and coherent designs.

I understand why sedans are going to the hatchback shape, but I cannot help but think that if Cadillac had gone with a roofline more like the 1976 Seville, this would have stood out in a very positive way. All they've really succeeded in doing is a Cadillac version of the MKZ which is no beauty.

Some comparisons

The side feels like BMW E60 a bit, but also at the same time, it feels like some other GM product but rebadged into a cadillac....
Again - I like this. The face is close to the concept. I think they should have remained true to the concept for the tail.

The let down for me is the side profile -with obvious area's of them cheaping out (I'm looking at you fake window and killing the 'swoop' from the hood back on the concept). The side looks a lot like a poor rip off of the Genesis G70 ... Does it really cost more to make sheet metal that has the swoop left in it? I'd assume once things are stamped /aligned - costs don't change (be it straight angles or swoop)....

IF this is priced right (ie - ATS) - they'll have a decent volume car on their hand. They won't do that however...it'll be priced ridiculously high (probably starting at $50K base - tarted up at $75K)....at $40K - this would be a great product though.

Also seems strange that they just made noise that Caddy was going to be their Electric brand - then they come out w/ a product that is basically sized like the previous gen CTS - and is a traditional internal combustion engine....mixed message much Caddy?

The side view is where the CT5 goes to hell. The Maxima kink is dumb. There isn't enough chrome. There isn't enough length. It needs to be price at $32K for base / $37K mid model / $42K CT5V for it to have a shot.
