Skoda wouldn't directly compete in the WRC. They would develop a slightly detuned version of a VW WRC using an all new custom 1.6T racing engine by Oreca. This engine might be based on the engine used in the Audi S3 or something like that. Skoda will continue to compete in the IRC with the Fabia S2000 powered by a 2.0NA engine and then a 1.6T. The new WRCars are actually enhanced S2000 cars with a a few WRC specific enhancements.

Ah, well, yes, you have a point.

VW doesn't want 2 brands competing in the same motorsport. IRC is classified differently as the WRC. Skoda can compete no problem in the IRC as long as VW doesn't compete in that series.

VW could announce something like the WRC in next 3-6 months.

VW might announce their WRC program at Rallye Portugal, which is in a few weeks. It seems like they're going with the Polo and not the Scirocco. VW initially considered the Scirocco, but they scrapped that idea, since it's too wide and probably too heavy. Polo seems right and that Oreca built 1.6T will be the same engine used in the new Polo R and Audi S1.

VW was considering Loeb, but he rejected that offer. Petter Solberg is another driver that VW is looking into.

Skoda originally had plans to make a WRC comeback, but VW forced them to scrap those plans.

Skoda is using new Reiger dampers, in which VW is evaluating whether or not they will use them for the Polo WRC. The Scirocco is obviously out as it's too wide. Polo makes more sense as they can use components from the Fabia S2000, to save on development costs.

Program will be announced in a press conference on May 8th. VW wanted to announce it earlier, yet the paperwork didn't get done in time, forcing VW to delay the announcement. It's very much going to be a Polo and not a Scirocco, as was initially rumored.
