The thing to remember is that the Mustang II went very "heritage" in its look and sales went wild. 300K units is nothing to sneeze at. The Mustang II in its day was much better looking than the bloated car that preceded it. Granted, as a pony car it was a Pinto at heart, but it was a very sporty alternative to the sea of "personal luxury" coupes and the HUGE Camaro. It's interesting that the "Fox" Mustang's lines were lurking in the studio when the Mustang II was being designed.

The one done by their Ghia studio was very forward thinking. Looked like something for the 80s.
